Indigenous peoples of the Amazon Basin have explored and used the botanical abundance of the most diverse ecosystem on earth as natural plant medicines in ceremony for thousands of years. Ayahuasca is a sacred plant medicine decoction from the Amazon that is considered a master plant teacher to facilitate the healing of the mind, body and spirit by shamans in these indigenous cultures. In recent years it has received medical attention from Western medical research communities such as Johns Hopkins, and UCLA. This is an introduction to this healing Elixir and the burgeoning western use of healing plant medicines that are being sought
